Port Knock in Emden becomes service base for MHI Vestas Offshore

From March 2018, EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH (EMO) will provide port facilities in Emden and logistics services to the wind turbine manufacturer MHI Vestas for the "Borkum Riffgrund 2" offshore wind farm.

After the installation of the 56 V164-8 MW wind turbines, MHI Vestas will commission the wind turbine generators and use the service base at Port Knock at the river Ems.
MHI Vestas has chosen Port Knock for its location and high level of independence. The service base will be used for the commissioning works of the wind farm "Borkum Riffgrund 2" for approximately one year. As the operator of the terminal facilities and the surrounding area, EMO supplies a comprehensive logistics service consisting of loading, warehousing, terminal logistics and berth management.
In particular, the serving of crew transfer vessels (CTV) - that means the guarantee of a safe boarding of the service technicians at the beginning and end of a shift, the loading of goods, spare parts and equipment are part of the daily business. The corresponding handling equipment provides EMO permanently.

The recently modernized Port Knock is a pier of the AG "EMS" with connected industrial area, which is located in front of the Emden harbor in the industrial area "Rysumer Nacken". The area offers a high potential for development, which will be used extensively for the first time for an offshore wind project.

The competences of EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH, which has been founded in 2010, lies especially in the supply of offshore wind farms with focus on Service and Crew Transfer Vessels. In addition, EMO provides Guard Vessels for offshore construction sites. Harbour and warehouse logistics as well as harbour management in Eemshaven, on the Island of Borkum and Emden Port Knock are also part of EMO’s services. With VENTUSmarine EMO operates its own maritime control center for offshore projects in Emden. Today the company has about 100 employees; AG EMS Group has over 450 in total and 50 of them are trainees.
